Apply for pre-planning application advice

This form is best completed on a desktop or a laptop.

In order for us to provide you with advice, please provide details of your proposals including:

  • A site plan clearly outlining the property or site to be developed on
  • You can buy a planning map to help support your application
  • Existing and proposed drawings, photographs and any other supporting information such as surveys and other reports

You can check whether the site has any planning constraints associated with it, for example, Listed building, Conservation area, Article 4.

After you have submitted your proposal and we have given our response, then any amended proposals you want advice on will require a new submission.

If you are applying on behalf of somebody else then you will have an option to pass the payment on to them once you have completed the application.

Pre application advice and confidentiality

Pre-application advice is subject to the Environmental Information Regulations, which means that members of the public can make requests to see the recorded information we hold on pre-application matters.

Although there are various exceptions within the legislation that might prevent release of information, all these have to be seen against the ‘public interest’ test. Our policy is to presume in favour of disclosure, and to refuse only if all the circumstances of the case means that public interest in maintaining the exception outweighs the public interest in releasing the information.

If there is any reason why you consider that the information should not be made public in accordance with the exceptions set out in the Regulations - for example, where there are issues of commercial sensitivity, please outline them in your submission. We will usually consult with you further if a request is made involving information given to you as pre-application advice, as the situation may have changed by the time a request is received. We reserve the right to release the information where appropriate in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.

Council officers and members have access to all pre-applications submitted to the council.
